Private Historical Tour to the Sobibór Memorial Site
This several-hour private tour takes you from Lublin to the Sobibór Memorial and Museum, one of the most important sites of remembrance in Poland. Traveling comfortably in my own car, we visit a place that bears witness to the tragic history of the Holocaust and the Nazi extermination camps.
Sobibór was a German Nazi death camp operating between 1942 and 1943, where tens of thousands of Jews were murdered. Today, the memorial and museum preserve the memory of the victims and tell the story of the camp, including the heroic prisoner uprising that took place in October 1943.
In October 2020, a modern permanent exhibition titled “SS-Sonderkommando Sobibor. German Death Camp 1942–1943” was opened. The exhibition presents the history of the camp through 16 thematic sections, placing individual human stories within the wider context of the Nazi machinery of extermination in occupied Poland and Europe. Nearly one hundred historical photographs and documents help illustrate this history.
At the heart of the exhibition is a 25-metre-long display case containing around 700 original objects uncovered during archaeological excavations conducted since 2000. These deeply moving artifacts — including jewelry, keys, glasses, fragments of clothing, and everyday personal items — once belonged to the victims. Most remain anonymous, making their silent presence even more powerful.
The exhibition combines traditional displays with multimedia elements, encouraging reflection, understanding, and respectful contemplation of this historical site. Throughout the tour, I provide historical background, context, and guidance, allowing visitors to fully grasp the significance of Sobibór.
